On Saturday I decided to take myself to the movies. So off I trotted to go and see He-Man: Masters of the Universe. I was generally pretty excited about the movie, as I'd thought it looked pretty cool when the trailer came out - I even wrote a blog about it back then, about the annoyance I have with the online discourse that immediately happens regarding anything pop-culture or nerdy. It get's pretty exhausting, all the negativity.
I've gotten to the point where I now just roll my eyes.

I'm not saying that Hollywood writer's are good - if anything, I think they're kinda...meh...I really think we have a serious problem in the new generation of writer's that came up after the 2007 Writer's Strike. I know, that seems like a LONG time ago, but that's when I noticed a shifting in the style of writing in television and movies, and it fascinated me.
However, I also think it's so exhausting to just hear the same boring arguments about why movies are bad, and not hearing anything productive. Lots of people work on movies, a lot of love goes into making a movie, and I prefer to dwell on that productivity whenever I go into a movie.
I am always excited to see what amazing creativeness other humans have come up with, and I wasn't at all disappointed by He-Man: Masters of the Universe.

It was so much fun.
I had so much fun. It was a really, really enjoyable movie.
As a review, I suppose I should analyze why it's enjoyable, but I always hate doing that.
The graphics are great - but you'd expect that.
You truly feel as though you have been transported to Eternia with how much care they took in creating the world and I love that. I drew me in and I was hooked from the first moment.
I think what I appreciated the most was how they handled Adam's character - and - you'll really just have to watch the movie yourself to understand what they've done. I love that they made the story into a Portal Fantasy, and had Adam as the fish-out-of-water character. I love that he had to learn that Skeletor is pure evil, he is just a villain, and there is no negotiating with villains.
That a man can be both empathic and kind, but also strong and heroic, these things aren't apposing to each other, they complement each other.

However that's just my take on it.
I highly recommend you give the movie a watch yourself. It's good fun, and I think we all need more good fun in our lives. My best praise I can give the movie is that it truly feels like watching a Saturday Morning cartoon, and I think that's pretty awesome. ^_^
If you have the money to spare for the ridiculous move ticket prices that is, cause oh-my-gosh! So expensive!
